Can't I just buy a tool like DX and figure it out ourselves?
Yes, you can. But our customers choose us because metrics without interpretation lead to analysis paralysis. If you have experienced DevEx practitioners in-house, a tool might be enough. If you need transformation, not just dashboards, we're the right fit.
We just want the software, why do we need advisory?
Because software alone doesn't create lasting change. We've seen too many organizations buy platforms, implement them, and abandon them within 6 months because they didn't have guidance on what the data means or how to act on it. We'd rather be honest and turn away business than set you up for failure.
Our engineering culture isn't ready for this kind of scrutiny.
Then we're probably not the right fit yet. Code Climate works best when leadership is committed to transparency and constructive improvement. If your organization isn't ready to use data to improve (not punish), the platform will create friction, not value.
We don't have budget for professional services, can we just buy the platform?
No. We've learned that platform-only engagements fail. Our smallest engagement includes quarterly advisory support. We'd rather be honest about our model than take your money for something that won't succeed.
We're already using [competitor tool], why would we switch?
You shouldn't, unless your current tool isn't giving you actionable transformation. We're not the cheapest option, and if you're just collecting metrics, stick with what you have. Choose us when you're ready to actually transform how your teams work.
Can't we just hire our own DevEx team internally instead?
And you should, eventually. Many of our customers use us as a bridge while they build internal capacity. We help you define what 'good' looks like, then transition ownership to your team. If you already have that expertise in-house, we might not be necessary.our model than take your money for something that won't succeed.
This seems expensive compared to just buying a dashboard tool.
It is more expensive. Because you're not buying a dashboard—you're buying expertise, transformation, and lasting organizational change. If your problem is 'we need more metrics,' we're overkill. If your problem is 'we need to fundamentally improve how we build software,' we're the right investment.
We're only 20 developers, are we too small?
Possibly. Our sweet spot is organizations with 50+ developers where coordination, quality, and velocity challenges compound. Smaller teams might be better served by lighter-weight tools until they hit scale challenges that require expert guidance.
We tried a DevOps transformation consultant before and it didn't stick.
That's exactly why we combine software + services. The platform keeps the practices alive after consulting ends. But if your organization isn't willing to commit to change with executive sponsorship, we'll face the same challenges. Transformation requires commitment, not just technology.
How do we know this won't just be shelfware?
We don't offer platform-only for exactly this reason. Our advisory model includes accountability check-ins and continuous engagement, but ultimate success depends on your organization committing to the process. If you're looking for a quick fix or checkbox solution, we're not it.
Still think we might be a good fit?
If you're committed to transformation, have executive sponsorship, and understand that lasting change takes time and partnership—let's talk. We'll be honest about whether we can help you succeed.
