##### Chapter 3: Of God's Eternal Decree
The rest of mankind God was pleased, according to the unsearchable counsel of his own will, whereby he extendeth or withholdeth mercy, as he pleaseth, for the glory of his sovereign power over his creatures, to pass by; and to ordain them to dishonor and wrath for their sin, to the praise of his glorious justice.[^fnref:wcf1]

What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction,</p> </div><h5>2 Timothy 2:19-20</h5> <div class="esv-text"><p id="p55002019.01-4">But God's firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.”</p> <p id="p55002020.01-4">Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonorable.</p> </div><h5>Jude 1:4</h5> <div class="esv-text"><p id="p65001004.01-5">For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.</p> </div><h5>1 Peter 2:8</h5> <div class="esv-text"><p class="same-paragraph" id="p60002008.01-6">and</p> <div class="block-indent"> <p class="line-group" id="p60002008.02-6">“A stone of stumbling,<br /> <span class="indent"></span>and a rock of offense.”</p> </div> <p class="same-paragraph" id="p60002008.11-6">They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.
