#### Shorter Catechism
<span class="q">Q 47.</span> What is forbidden in the first commandment?
<span class="q">A.</span> The first commandment forbiddeth the denying,[^fnref:wsc1] or not worshiping and glorifying, the true God as God,[^fnref:wsc2] and our God;[^fnref:wsc3] and the giving of that worship and glory to any other, which is due to him alone.[^fnref:wsc4]

<span class="q">Q 105.</span> What are the sins forbidden in the first commandment?
<span class="q">A.</span> The sins forbidden in the first commandment are, atheism, in denying or not having a God;[^fnref:wlc1] idolatry, in having or worshiping more gods than one, or any with or instead of the true God;[^fnref:wlc2] the not having and avouching him for God, and our God;[^fnref:wlc3] the omission or neglect of anything due to him, required in this commandment;[^fnref:wlc4] ignorance,[^fnref:wlc5] forgetfulness,[^fnref:wlc6] misapprehensions,[^fnref:wlc7] false opinions,[^fnref:wlc8] unworthy and wicked thoughts of him;[^fnref:wlc9] bold and curious searching into his secrets;[^fnref:wlc10] all profaneness,[^fnref:wlc11] hatred of God;[^fnref:wlc12] self-love,[^fnref:wlc13] self-seeking,[^fnref:wlc14] and all other inordinate and immoderate setting of our mind, will, or affections upon other things, and taking them off from him in whole or in part;[^fnref:wlc15] vain credulity,[^fnref:wlc16] unbelief,[^fnref:wlc17] heresy,[^fnref:wlc18] misbelief,[^fnref:wlc19] distrust,[^fnref:wlc20] despair,[^fnref:wlc21] incorrigibleness,[^fnref:wlc22] and insensibleness under judgments,[^fnref:wlc23] hardness of heart,[^fnref:wlc24] pride,[^fnref:wlc25] presumption,[^fnref:wlc26] carnal security,[^fnref:wlc27] tempting of God;[^fnref:wlc28] using unlawful means,[^fnref:wlc29] and trusting in lawful means;[^fnref:wlc30] carnal delights and joys;[^fnref:wlc31] corrupt, blind, and indiscreet zeal;[^fnref:wlc32] lukewarmness,[^fnref:wlc33] and deadness in the things of God;[^fnref:wlc34] estranging ourselves, and apostatizing from God;[^fnref:wlc35] praying, or giving any religious worship, to saints, angels, or any other creatures;[^fnref:wlc36] all compacts and consulting with the devil,[^fnref:wlc37] and hearkening to his suggestions;[^fnref:wlc38] making men the lords of our faith and conscience;[^fnref:wlc39] slighting and despising God and his commands;[^fnref:wlc40] resisting and grieving of his Spirit,[^fnref:wlc41] discontent and impatience at his dispensations, charging him foolishly for the evils he inflicts on us;[^fnref:wlc42] and ascribing the praise of any good we either are, have, or can do, to fortune,[^fnref:wlc43] idols,[^fnref:wlc44] ourselves,[^fnref:wlc45] or any other creature.[^fnref:wlc46]
